What should I expect during the application process?

Step One

Online Application

First step begins here! Hit the application button and fill out the information. Soon, you’ll receive a phone call from a staff member.

Applications are currently closed.  Please check back on this page every couple weeks. Thank you.

Step Two

Phone Interview

This will be an opportunity to share a little bit about yourself and together we can make sure that you meet basic qualifications.

Step Three

Video

After that initial call to determine basic qualification status you’ll either be moved onto the next step or be connected to a different resource in the community that might be a better fit for you at this time. If you move forward in the process, you’ll receive an email with introduction videos.

Step Four

Program Interview

Once we have word that you’ve watched the videos and are still interested in moving forward with us, you’ll receive a call to set up a program interview with several staff members. After the program interview, if staff continue to believe you are a good fit for TRH, you’ll continue moving forward to the next step.

Step Five

Pre-Interview Questionnaire and KCDC Application

Here you’ll be asked to fill out paperwork for KCDC if you qualify for the project based voucher. We will need you to begin that process immediately at this point. If you do move forward towards the final interview, you’ll receive another call to set up the interview and notice that you’ll have some pre-interview questions emailed to you that we will need before your final interview.

Step Six

Assessment Interview

During the final assessment interview, you will meet with a couple of TRH staff members, along with a therapist from Harmony Family Center. After this interview, staff will gather all of the information shared during the entire application process and make one final assessment of your readiness and fit for TRH. Throughout the entire process, you will be given the opportunity to ask as many questions as you’d like as our desire is for you to be confident that you are ready to jump into all that we offer to you at TRH.

A staff member will follow up with you after this to talk about next steps, including, if you are accepted into TRH and when you can expect to sign your lease and move into The Village community…and begin your 2-3 year journey at TRH!

What should I expect if I’m accepted into The Restoration House?

The Restoration House helps single mothers pursue their personal and career ambitions while also fostering their children’s well-being. By reimagining their family’s future, moms will be equipped to pursue career advancement, feel confident about their plan for permanent housing, and take on leadership roles as community changemakers. If accepted into TRH, you would collaborate with TRH staff in the three following areas:

Family Advocacy

You would engage in weekly meetings where you will work with your Advocate on identifying goals and creating a plan of action for your time at The Restoration House. Advocates will utilize various tools, including Mobility Mentoring, to collaborate with participants in goal tracking and progression in the following areas:

  • Family Stability
  • Education & Training
  • Financial Management
  • Well-Being
  • Income Level
  • Career exploration

Your school aged youth would engage with our Youth Advocates and other youth support staff through our On Belay after school and summer youth program. Through goal-setting and community building, youth in the On Belay program are encouraged to grow into confident and inspiring leaders, while understanding the importance of overcoming setbacks in their journey.

Also, your littlest family members, from 6 weeks to 5 years old, could be supported through Olive Tree Early Learning Academy. Olive Tree Early Learning Academy, our latest TRH initiative, provides high-quality early education and childcare, ensuring a solid educational foundation for children while supporting parents.

After graduation from TRH, you would be invited to maintain connections with us through our Alumni Engagement Program. This program for our graduates provides ongoing support, community engagement opportunities, and leadership development.

Enrichment

The Restoration House would also collaborate with you by providing an Enrichment program focused on holistic mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, and relational well-being.

You would engage in individualized therapeutics during your time at TRH that could include:

  • Individual therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Parent coaching
  • Other interventions as needed

You would attend the following classes during your time at TRH:

  • Financial management
  • Parenting
  • Relationships
  • Homeownership

You would be connected with an Ally Team to support your relational and spiritual goals and to expand your social capital connections.

  • Get connected with 2-3 allies by end of month 3
  • Contact with Allies weekly through text/call, etc
  • Face-to-face time together monthly

Housing and Community Life

As a participant of TRH, you would live in The Village community where you would find a safe, supportive community of neighbors working towards the futures that you each desire for yourself and your families. To qualify for housing at The Village, you will be asked to fill out an application for a project based voucher from KCDC, use your Housing Choice voucher, or pay 30% of your income if you do not qualify for the other two vouchers. Not only will the Housing and Community Life Coordinator walk you through all things housing during your time at TRH, but she will also help you set goals and concrete steps around next step housing so that you have an actionable plan at the end of your time at TRH.

The Village Community has 24 (2, 3, and 4 bedroom) units, each equipped with their own washer and dryer.

While living at The Village you will also:

  • Participate in monthly community meetings
  • Enjoy various community events such as the Fall Festival
  • Have the opportunity to grow fresh produce in the community garden

The Village is led by an amazing group of moms who make up the Village Lead Team. These women participate in a leadership program while taking on specific leadership roles within the community. You might be eligible for this leadership position after you’ve been at TRH for 6 months.

The Village Lead Team is focused on:

  • Welcoming new Village community members
  • Planning and leading community meetings
  • Organizing and executing community events
  • Connecting with neighbors, helping them navigate normal community challenges

Here is a general overview of what your time at TRH might look like if you were to be a part of our programs.
